What can the relationship between a handle and door be compared to? Simple queries for someone who has designed two of the most appreciated handles of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombodesign.com\/#!\">Colombo Design<\/a>\u00a0collection:\u00a0 Dea (2010) and Bold (2008).<br \/>\nThe latter was chosen for the tenth leg of the \u201cAround the world in 12 handles\u201d, an event organised by the renowned webzine\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.designboom.com\/\">Designboom<\/a>\u00a0which aimed to turn the table on the classic concept of handles, promoting it as a tool to reach new realities in surreal journeys; in this specific case, the reality is that of Valencia where the sleek and rounded shape of the Bold handle was photographed with the lively Spanish city as the backdrop, amidst tradition and future.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_720\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-720\" style=\"width: 4912px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.colombodesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-720 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.colombodesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/21.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"4912\" height=\"7360\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-720\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dea handle, Pio&amp;Tito Toso designers for Colombo Design (2010) \u2013 Image \u00a9 Colombo Design \u201cDea speaks the architecture language. It\u2019s safe and basic. It came from the research to combine ergonomics, solidity and the beauty of a timeless object. Its convex surface as a drop, reflects the environment. Perfect balance of beauty, synthesis and functionality.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_733\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-733\" style=\"width: 355px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.colombodesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/flag-design-pio-e-tito-toso-pedrali-b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-733 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.colombodesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/flag-design-pio-e-tito-toso-pedrali-b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"355\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-733\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cFlag is a hanger that represents the synthesis between form and function. The Result is a monolithic object, such as forged in one piece. The hanger, made of reinforced polypropylene, is connected to the metal tube to complete and stretch it, highlighting the relationship between element extruded and molded element, linearity\/organicity. Flag is a transversal product that adapts to different contexts, from public spaces to the office spaces and to the domestic spaces thanks to its clean and simple design and the possibility to vary the number and position of hangers. \u201c<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>What are the pros and cons of working as a designer in Italy?<br \/>\n<\/strong>The pros are its culture, the Italian savoir faire and the inspired entrepreneurs we have in this country. The cons are the lack of domestic policies that promote Italian designers (for instance\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.via.fr\/\">VIA<\/a>\u00a0in France).<\/p>\n<p><strong>If a newly graduated designer asked you for some advice, what would you say?<br \/>\n<\/strong>We would say that he has the possibility to a fantastic job which offers endless opportunities. It is not a red carpet, glossy magazine or high-fashion job, it is a job whose deep-seated roots are in an unpretentious listening and constant research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your idea of design?<br \/>\n<\/strong>We try to create objects that are designed to last, that do what they are made to do quickly and efficiently.<br \/>\nThe shape is approached in a second phase, we are more interested in the effects, the relations that an object is able to trigger in users, and how and at what level these relations actually take place. This potential of the objects is what attracts us, we try to express it in the most simple and straightforward way possible, searching for the best way to convey the maximum empathic and minimum formal content, exploiting a research focused on synthesis, reduction of elements and simplicity.
