Makio Hasuike


Makio Hasuike, born in Tokyo in 1938, graduated at the “University of Arts of Tokyo” in 1962. He has been active in Italy, since 1963. In 1968 he set up his own design studio in Milan, one of the first in Italy. In 1982 he creates MHWay, an experimental brand of innovative products such as bags and accessories. The design company is still active today. In over 50 years he has been collaborating with Italian and international companies, contributing to their success through innovative solutions in terms of appearance and contents. MakioHasuike&Co studio works in various fields: from high tech tools to work and spare time products, from household appliances to furniture, from branding to exhibition design and architecture. Its projects obtained prestigious awards and some are displayed in permanent exhibitions like the MoMA of New York. Makio Hasuike is one of the members of the founding committee of the Master in Strategic Design at the Polytechnic of Milan. In 2016 he receives the Compasso d’Oro Lifetime Achievement Award.
